RFS - XM / Roll Feed Solution Overview

XM RFS is a turnkey solution for roll feeders , supporting shear , punch or press operation.
Whether processing sheet metal, foil or paper, the system handles all synchronization and position tasks efficiently

Roll Feed
IndraMotion XM Rollfeed Standard (XM RFS) provides a system solution for roll feeders, with support for typical press, punch or shear operations. Common feed materials include metal, foil or paper.

Operations between the feeder and the associated punch or press are coordinated using discrete signals. The system provides best-possible error reaction in case of failure of the digital handshaking sequence. Feed lengths may be optimized in-process by adjustment of a “micro-adjust” value. Similarly, feedrate may be adjusted in-process by changing the “feedrate override” value. In cases where the punch or press operation rate is constant, the feed profile may be optimized for maximum time utilization using a new optimization algorithm.

The IndraMotion XM Rollfeed Standard solution includes a modern HMI interface, with advanced diagnostic and alarm information. XM RFS supports 99 separate indexing profiles, with full archiving and restoration using the motion controller’s internal flash. “Press before feed” and “Feed before press” options are available.
Intuitive Touch Screen Display
Active part: Active part refers to the part currently selected in the Formats!Select screen. The user may select from parts 1-99.

Count [#]: The current part count. This value will increment by one at the completion of each machine cycle. To reset the counter, press the button labeled Counter Reset on screen Formats ->Select.

Quantity: The batch quantity associated with the active part. If this value is zero, then the process will continue until terminated by the user. In this case the graphic will display the text Endless. Otherwise, the process will stop automatically once the current part count reaches the value assigned to Quantity. Only non-negative values are allowed.

Length, active[unit]: The effective index length, given in units of inch or millimeter. This is the length of the active part offset by the micro-adjust value. Note that pressing on this field activates a pop-up that allows the micro-adjust value to be modified. Press on the field again to close the pop-up.

Velocity, active[%]: The effective index velocity. This is the velocity of the active part multiplied by the override value. Note that pressing on this field activates a pop-up that allows the override value to be modified. Press on the field again to close the pop-up.

Position[unit]: The actual position of the drive, given in units of inch or millimeter. Note that pressing on this field activates a pop-up that gives a graphical indication of the position. Press on the field again to close the pop-up.

Torque[%]: The actual drive torque, given as a percentage of the rated constant duty torque. The value is read directly from axis parameter A-0-0110 (or, equivalently, IndraDrive parameter S-0-0084.)

Press rate [rpm]: The current measured press speed given in units of strokes per minute [rpm]. Note that pressing on this field activates a pop-up that gives a graphical indication of the press rate. The maximum value indicated in the graphic is calculated based on the current index profile (total index length incl. microadjust, velocity, acceleration, jerk) together with an expected maximum utilization of 90% and an assumed duty cycle of 50%. This maximum is an estimate. Press on the field again to close the pop-up.

Utilization[%]: Utilization is defined as the ratio of the time required for indexing compared to the total time provided by the feed angle permissive. The ratio is expressed as a percentage. The Machine screen displays the most recent Utilization value on a scale [0,100]. If the feed angle signal is lost during indexing, XM RFS stops the index and transitions to Stopped state. The Utilization is automatically reset to 0 in this case.

Further information provided by the Machine screen includes the current state of the Feed angle and Interrupt inputs, the Press output, as well as the current error, drive power and emergency stop values.

Finally, the actual line speed is shown at the foot of the screen. This value is calculated based on the measured press rate.
The banner at the top of the HMI screen displays diagnostics information reported by the hardware components
Banner

The banner at the top of the HMI screen displays diagnostics information reported by the hardware components as well as process information.

The field in the top left corner of the banner is the diagnostic message of the MLC. Any errors or warnings present in the IndraDrive servo drive or the MLC control will be described here. Under normal operating conditions the message “A0200010, BB RUN, Motion ready, PLC in run” will be displayed. See the description of parameter C-0-0626 in the IndraWorks online help for more information.

The field in the top right corner of the banner is the diagnostic number of the MLC. A description of any given diagnostic code is provided by the IndraWorks online help. Troubleshooting tips are also provided.

The in-process message in the lower left corner of the banner provides status of the machine process. See Appendix B for a complete listing of all in-process messages. If the internal error handler of the PLC application has detected a process error or event, this message will be displayed until it is cleared.

The field in the lower right corner of the banner describes the current mode of operation (Automatic, Setup, Manual) together with the current machine state. The internal state machine used by the PLC application is based on the ISA-TR88.00.02 PackML standard.

The background of the banner color-coded. Red indicates that a fault or stoppage has occurred and that Reset is required. Green indicates that the machine is running or may be started by pressing the Start button.
At the bottom of each HMI screen is the navigation strip.
Navigation

At the bottom of each HMI screen is the navigation strip.
The following screen groups are supported:

  • Machine
  • Settings
  • Alarms/Events
  • Statistics (placeholder for future use)
  • Modes
  • Diagnostics
  • Formats

When the screen group is active, the associated button is displayed in dark blue. Otherwise the buttons are shown in light blue. In the figure above, Machine is active. To the right of the navigation strip is the Reset button. Use this button to clear any internal application errors that have occurred. In case of hardware fault, the Reset button will issue a clear error command to the device in question. Pressing the Reset button is functionally equivalent to raising digital input 23 to a voltage of +24VDC.

The Reset button also has special functionality in Setup mode.
